SSSSsssssssst.....

And a great party it was....guess what...Mr Bee came to party too..In disguise..
He came down on a parachute and landed in the garden..then,he intruduced himself as Bond..James Bond.Cool..So,Catwoman danced with James B,Frankenstein with his lovely bride, and Gustave had an interesting conversation with Miss Peach and Whiskers up the tree..something about ..to be,or not to be,up a tree, that was the question!
The hedgehog family was present wearing Witches hats, very cute, and a little Robin dressed as Batman gave us a real fright because he was skydiving from the rooftop,shouting.."Batman,batman"..don't worry,he's oke......no animals got hurt.
Then..in the middle of the party, a Ghost appeared....all white with scary hair!!
My goodness..it was our sweet Dutchess in her nightgown..Oeps,.... we forgot to tell her about our party....So sorry.
We are all very tired now...time to go to sleep.Only one garden creature is still wandering about in the dark to see the bats fly by.Its Gerald (flemish)Jay....he talks funny and is not to be trusted, always picking on somebody..But tonight he behaved and like us he found the party to be "Vewy Scawy'

See ya later.....your Miss Moussie

Under a new Moon..

Under a new Moon change has come....
Our fearless gate keeper Mr Bee has left the garden..he now lives in a much bigger place ..he has become a country cat!
The garden was for Mr Bee not a very safe place anymore..There where mean catnappers on the loose!
After a very serieus talk with all the little creatures from the garden we had to make this difficult decision.
We try not to be sad..its for the best..and Mr Bee can wander the country side as much as he pleases!
He promised to write tons of letters, and we go visit him ofcourse.
Guess who is the Fearless Gate Keeper now....Mr Bee gave the key from the garden to no other then... Miss Moussie. And we all know she will do her best to keep the garden safe.

Frozen..

Where do frogs go in winter?

The frogs hibernate in burrows or bury themselves in mud. Toads and frogs are cold-blooded and their body processes slow down as the outside temperature drops. This is why you sometimes find frogs sunning themselves in the spring. Their body temp needs to rise for them to move well. Frogs' bodies have some natural antifreeze chemicals built into them, but a few kinds of frogs who live in especially cold climates can even survive being frozen solid Wood frogs, see picture, are the most widely found frogs above the Arctic Circle. In the winter it can get so cold that you would probably rather be at home with a cup of hot cocoa! These frogs have found some very interesting ways to adapt to this cold weather.
When the temperatures start to drop, Wood Frogs will go buries itself and then shuts itself down.
The Wood Frogs are one of serveral species that have the amazing ability to completely freeze solid!
They stay frozen for as long as the temperature of the ground is below freezing. They have no choice. They are the exact temperature of the environment they are in. When they thaw out, it's like an icecube coming to life!
The first thing that happens when they thaw is the heart starts beating again. Then they start gulping air and shaking out their limbs. Finally, the when the frog is fully recovered, he can hop away!
Why is this important? Just think what it could mean for people if we could develope drugs that do the same thing for humans!

A planting day..

Flower bulb planting is a job for crisp, sunny fall days(like we have today)

All spring-flowering bulbs, such as tulips, daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses, need a period of cold to flower well.

The key thing is to plant them about six weeks before hard ground frosts in your area
Spring-flowering bulbs thrive in full or partial sun. Good drainage is important for most bulbs, so avoid placing them in soggy areas and in low-lying parts of the garden where water pools during wet winters and spring thaw.
Dig a hole or trench large enough for several bulbs. Bulbs are most effective when planted in bunches.
Cover bulbs with soil and water generously. Later, when the ground cools you can apply 2 to 3 inches of mulch to the surface, such as compost, well-rotted manure, shredded bark or chopped up leaves. This helps to prevent soil from drying out and to help keep temperatures stable through the winter.
I am going to have a lovely planting day in the garden together with Mr bee.
We are going to plant lots and lots of snowdrops....and crocuses!

Be a litterbug..

Raking leaves? Be a litterbug instead!
Raking leaves disturbs bird habitat!
You see, bugs like it when you are a litterbug, if you are littering with leaf litter, that is. And of course, birds like bugs.

Leaves that are left to decompose create something called leaf litter. It does lots of good things for your yard. Nutrients are replaced in the soil, over-wintering perennial plants are kept nice and cozy in blankets of leaf mulch, and all sorts of beneficial little critters live in it.

Save some time, and don’t rake the leaves, or at least don’t obsess over an immaculately raked yard each fall. Raking leaves disturbs many natural landscaping benefits.
