Out of the darkness a little creature comes crawling....

Midnight..The clock in the hilltop hallway strike's twelve...
All is quiet in the house...nothing is stirring..not even a mouse..
The Christmas tree stands tall and proud in the middle of the hallway...protecting the Christmas presents left there by the hilltop inhabitants...

Out of  the darkness a little creature comes crawling ....he approaches the presents...and then...steels them away..
Who is this thief that entered the Hilltop in the middle of the night..?

Only the tree knows..

The clock in the Hilltop hallway strikes seven..
Early....VERY early in the morning at Hilltop Hall..all is quiet in the house...but not for long...

A door opens and in comes the Dutchess...on her way to light the lights in the tree...
Its now a tree out of a fairy-tale...its like a thousand fireflies dance between its branches..
-So lovely whispers the dutchess....and while she is standing there in awe...she notices something...
-O my goodness she cries out... This can not be true...this can not be true....where are all the present's....?

The clock in the Hilltop Hallway strikes eight...
All is chaos in the house and all of the Hilltop creatures are there...in shock...running hither and thither and babbling nonsense..

-We have to call Sherlock Holmes twitters Miss Moussie...this is very suspicious..
-.....Who?...says Who.....I'm afraid we will have to do our own investigation my dear Miss Moussie...
-We need a dog...like the one of the Baskervilles..twitter's Miss Moussie .. he will find the rascal who stole our presents..
.....Who?...says Who...from where..? Sounds like a dog who can't be trusted...
-We need our whit...because one needs it especially when one is at  one's  whit's end...croaks Gustave,,
...You are not making any sense Gus....says Elvira...what's a whit...?
.....Horatio keeps silent..he's just prickly...very prickly...and silent...

Then the Dutchess raises her voice to speak...
My dear dear friends......I know its very sad what happened but please let me make a new start by wishing  you a merry Christmas...and please, let our friendship be our present this Christmas morning.....!

The clock stroke nine..everybody counted with a heavy heart......and after the last chime the silence was overwhelming ....

Suddenly..with a soft squeak..the kitchen door opened....a little nose peeps around the corner..

Everybody cried out together as in a choir.......MR Ccccccccccccccccccc.......!!!
And much to everyone's surprise they saw Mr mole enter, dragging behind him the BIGGEST Christmas stocking EVER...

To make a long story short.....all's well that ends well....
Mr Mole told about his strange predicament....and our Hilltop creature's understood...happy to have found their presents back and very proud that Mr Mole came up with this very creative and brilliant solution...
Knitting a stocking to keep the presents ,and to use again and again in Christmases to come..

And now for the curious readers among us who want to know what exactly was IN that stocking...

Miss Moussie gave a red velvet cloak and hat with purple feather to a still very prickly Horatio....
A very prickly, but now very smart dressed Horatio gave our Dutchess a Poem....he wrote this influenced by Shakespeare when he was staying over in the Hilltop Library one night!
The Dutchess baked a jar full of imaginary cookies for Gustave..he couldn't believe his eyes..
Gustave  sang a ballade..for Elvira..The ballade of a naughty squirrel...and he played his banjo to go with it..
Elvira made a nutty gold and shiny garland made out of a thousand nuts for Who..to decorate his tree..
.........and Who ..Who did something very special...he declared himself to be Miss Moussie's personal bodyguard. A declaration of  loyalty ..written in his own blood....for ever and always, to protect her from harm and predator's..

and Mr Mole...well...we all know what he did...

                                                               THE END.

There is NOWHERE like The Hilltop......NOWHERE!

OK, I need to know, who is tooting the little penny whistle and who is tickling the 88s of the little organ? ELVIRA? I can see you tooting the whistle; I don't think Miss M. is playing the organ...we know that both the Dutchess and Auntie Nita do NOT like to play organs...teeheee

OH DEAREST this was delightful. I am so excited to see you are writing away in your bird's nest loft, as I TOO am spending time in my loft, hanging out my balcony to look at the moon, to dream, to think and pray, and try to write.

What a glorious illustration, sparkling with love, with glitter and gifts from the heart of a true artist. LOVE TO YOU ALL! (we have a very naughty gray squirrel in our tree too!!)
