A Nutty Task...

On his way to the Hilltop Pond Mr C Mole had to walk through Acorn Lane...that's where Elvira lives...high up a tree..in a big Squirrel's nest..

Its not the only home for Elvira..she also has one for winter...sheltered in the hollow of a maple tree....

Darkness fell....and Mr Mole had to carefully watch his step....For a minute there he was thinking that maybe taking the underground route would be faster..but then again he was enjoying the nightly air and the moonlight shining through the branches of the treetops.

-Isn't the Hilltop a wonderful place to live..he mumbled to himself..

Then, suddenly...something fell on his head..TOINK.!!!!......It bounced ..and then fell to the ground....

-Goodness..WWWhat was that..stammered C...and ..TOINK..there it happened again...followed by a little voice yelling..TIMBER!!!

Mr C looked up to see where this little voice came from and then, much to his surprise... it was raining acorns all around him...

-Elvira...is this you....said C ....is this you up there bombarding me ....you nutty naughty squirrel girl......?

And indeed....Elvira jumped down....giggling..-So sorry dear C..I didn't see you there.....I am ever so busy..I need a thousand nuts...or more..for my secret present...

Could you be so kind and help me...I want to fill this basket before its to dark to see, you see...

-O....I see, said C...

And so it happened that Mr Mole, on his way to visit Gustave, assisted Elvira in her nutty task to fill her basket...

Whilst doing so he wondered...- Shall I ask Elvira..shall I tel her in what strange predicament I;m in..?

-No...cant do that...can not do that..look, how busy Elvira is..and how happy to go and make her present...

Better carry on... find Gustave..And then, Mr C continued, following the road to the Hilltop Pond....
